Raymond Blanc’s 'bare' Gâteau au Citron - Lemons #3

I made this cake because Alan told me to. LOL.
He didn't like this cake, but it was otherwise for me.
His poison is my meat.

Tastiness of Chocolate with the Goodness of Milk

THIS IS A SPONSORED POST

Hey, have you seen this thing on the supermarket shelves lately? It’s a new product from Dutch Lady. Not at the dairy aisle, but at Beverage.

Most of us are used to having chocolate drinks such as Milo or Vico. But when I saw this Dutch Lady Chocolate Drink in the supermarket, it caught my attention. It says there that it’s the “tastiness of chocolate with the goodness of milk”. It’s unique in the sense where it’s not the ordinary chocolate drink but its chocolate powder infused with milk powder which in my opinion has more flavour. It’s tasty, nutritious and best of all, ezymix.

You may relate Dutch Lady to kids or babies, but no, this is suitable for consumption by the entire family. It has the tastiness of chocolate with the goodness of milk. Biarbetul, cuba rasa! Don’t believe it, try it

There has been a few contest running on www.biarbetul.my before 18th September 2012 and some of you could have been lucky to win limited edition tees and Ipod Nano. Sounds good huh!

Now I wonder if you’ve noticed lately these few weeks there’s a truck going around high traffic areas in Klang Valley. Did you happen to get a sample drink from the truck and wondered what is that drink with the yummy chocolate-y taste? There’s no brand stated… mysterious eh.

No fret no fret if you didn’t see the truck or win anything from them last few weeks. From September 19 onwards, lookout for a Biar Betul truck. It’s blue in colour with a huge picture of Dutch Lady Chocolate Drink on the sides of the truck. You still stand the opportunity to win prizes and vouchers from them over the next few months, yes, months! Sounds fun and exciting yeah! Log on to www.biarbetul.my to track the trucks and chase after them!

For those who don’t reside in Klang Valley or reside here but think you can’t bump into those trucks, you can still have some online fun in Facebook! Wherever you are in Malaysia, just join the EZYMIX party at Dutch Lady’s FB page  and play the EZYMIX Party for a chance to win RM50 shopping vouchers weekly or discount vouchers to purchase Dutch Lady Chocolate Drink when the player hits a high score.

Lemon Curd - Lemon #2

Whenever I make buttercream, I tend to have yolks left. This is a good option to clear off the yolks.

My hubby's relatives from Australia brought us some homegrown lemons, and so, they are organic and wax free. So happy!!! So, with the extra yolks that I have, what am I waiting for, hehehe, make lemon curd!!

Lemon Steamed Sponge Cake - Lemon #1

I have this phobia about steamed cakes. I think I am not the only one.
I am ok with small steamed cakes, but my legs will be shivering at the thought of large ones.

The fear of collapsing is not unreal, it is very deep in me. I don't fear failure, I fear wastage.
I fear of having to eat the failure and forcing myself to do it rather than discarding.

Thai Style Garlic Steamed Fish - Fishy fishy #3

yummy yummy! I cooked this fish twice and pictures are from my 2nd attempt
This was my first dish using fish sauce(that time, Sept 2011). I’ve never used fish sauce before. And not long before I saw this recipe, I bought myself one small bottle. Some are made from squid, some from anchovies and this bottle I’ve got, is made from pomfret. Experienced fish sauce users, any difference between those that I mentioned? I just have no idea. But one thing I know, it definitely taste more pleasant than fish sauce that comes from China. That is toooooo fishy for me.

Snakehead Fish Soup with Sweet Corn and Huaishan 生鱼粟米淮山汤 - Fishy fishy #2

Not that slithery snake!
It's the type of fish with a head that looks like snake. Locally prized as a wound healer. It's known as "Sang Yue" or ikan haruan.

Whenever someone has an operation done, or an open wound, this soup will be very suitable. Don't think that I have wounds, haha. We drank this just as a regular soup for dinner.

Turmeric Grilled Fish - Fishy fishy #1

The first time I had grilled fish this way, was during Kem Bina Insan Guru, of which every trainee teacher has to attend, it's supposed to build 'soul' (character, hahaha). Each  team had to cook their own meals daily. The menu is fixed and ingredients given fresh everyday.

One day, we were given some small fishes and the menu for that meal is Ikan bakar (grilled fish) and from there, I witnessed how my team mates went around plucking banana leaves, smothering the fish with salt and turmeric and then.. grilled them in the wok! Malay home style grilled fish. It was delish!

I had been wanting to replicate this for quite a long time and on one lucky evening at the night market, I happened to purchase some big and cheap calamansi and a few weird looking fishes, and at the same time was given some banana leaves by a relative. It was that spur of the moment that eh, I seem to have everything on hand! Perfecto!

Here's what I did.

Strawberry Meringue Baskets - Strawberry #3

I made this sometime ago because I happened to have a tub of greek yogurt. Ipoh's latest shopping center Aeon Station 18 has opened not too long ago and on my first visit, I saw a new range of products brought into Ipoh city :) Finally greek yogurt has arrived.

I've been visually attracted to this meringue basket sometime ago... and it was supposely to be filled with whipped cream and topped with strawberries. I decided to borrow that concept and use greek yogurt and fill it with strawberries too, rather than just on top. And add some texture and flavour contrast with a chocolate ganache as sauce.

Strawberry Almond Muffins - Strawberry #2

It was one of those hungry afternoons again.

I rumaged the fridge and saw this box of strawberries bought 2 weeks before and still looking pretty good untouched under the cling wrap. Then I took out some milk, ground almond and few eggs and this and that and some muffin liners recently given to me by fellow blogger HKChoo. I started baking muffins without a recipe.

Homemade Strawberry Jam - Strawberry # 1

Recipe created on Oct 2011

Strawberry jam... seen a lot on supermarket shelves?

Whenever I open a jar of commercial jam, usually I smell the sugar rather than the fruit. I know not all brands do, but most of them do, not gourmet jams that costs RM20 above, not those. And commercial jams taste soooo sugary that... you can only spread a thin layer of it onto the bread. With that thin layer, how much fruit do you get to taste? Some budget jams don't even have any fruits in it, but just colouring and flavouring.

Fried Sago Worms, Fear Factor Sarawak Style - MFF Sarawak #4

During my 2nd year in uni, a bunch of us from the same course flew over to Sarawak for a 11 day holiday (BSPTers, correct me if I'm wrong). It was absolutely fun fun fun fun fun!!! We have a a few fellow coursemates who come from Kuching and they were soooo happy to have us visiting.

Before the holidays started, I told of them that I want to try Sago worms. That's my biggest "want to try thing" in the list. FYI, I'm not a worm lover. I am extremely fearful of anything that wriggles, especially earthworms. But for this, I braved myself. Because if not, I'll lose an invaluable Sarawakian experience.

Pig Stomach with Pineapple and Chillies - MFF Sarawak #3

I don’t eat innards of the pig, except the stomach. It’s chewy and nice to eat.

There are three ways that I have eaten the pig’s stomach, in pepper soup, in Bak Kut Teh and in porridge. This method will be my 4th and give this a try of you like the idea of hot and spicy, sourish and yet sweet pork stomach.

Tebaloi, Sago Cookies - Sarawak MFF #2

Lydia loved this, she said it taste like milk cookies. LOL.

Tebaloi is a traditional snack of the Melanau tribe of Sarawak. I first had a taste of this back in 2001 when I went to Sarawak for 11 day, on a fun trip with my uni mates. I fell in love with it at first bite. It was absolutely delicious and addictive. We bought these mostly at souvenir shops and they don’t come cheap for that few pieces of cookie. Now it’s even more expensive, 50% more of what I used to pay, if I didn’t remember wrongly. It used to be RM2 per box, but now it’s RM10 for 3.

Manok Pansoh - Sarawak MFF #1

1st attempt

Hello everybody it's the time for MFF again! And for this month it's Sarawak!
Don't forget to drop by Yummy Little Cooks for last month's roundup for Melaka

For Sarawak, I'll be doing 4 tribal recipes, hehehe.

If one were to ask the Ibans of Sarawak, what is the most famous food from their community, they'll answer you it's manuk pansuh/manok pansoh. Manuk is chicken and pansuh is cooking in bamboo. The Bidayuh tribe will instead call this as "Siyok Buruu". I do know that cooking in bamboo is also practised by other aboriginal peoples of the world, and have even seen a similar "orang asli" recipe in the Pahang Sultanah's cookbook.
